President-Elect

Overview: The President-Elect serves as the continuity and strategic planning leader for the chapter and is the first year of a three-year leadership succession term (President-Elect, President, Past President). This role supports chapter governance, operational continuity, board development, strategic planning, and succession readiness while preparing to assume the office of President.

The President-Elect partners closely with the President to support chapter operations, CARE alignment, board effectiveness, leadership continuity, and organizational sustainability.

This position reports directly to the President of the Metro DC ATD Board.

Reports to: President

Term: 1 Year

Time Commitment: 15-25 hours per month

Board Terms / Participation

  • Support chapter governance, continuity, and strategic planning efforts in partnership with the President and Board leadership.
  • Lead and coordinate annual CARE reporting, chapter reporting requirements, and strategic plan review activities.
  • Oversee board onboarding, leadership development support, and succession planning efforts for current and future board leaders.
  • Support financial oversight, operational administration, and coordination with chapter administrative partners or contractors as assigned.
  • Prepare to assume the office of President by developing knowledge of chapter operations, governance practices, ATD National requirements, and board portfolio functions.

Board Terms / Participation

  • First year of a three-year leadership succession term: President-Elect, President, and Past President.
  • Assume the office of President in accordance with chapter bylaws if the President is unable to fulfill their term.
  • Participate in governance reviews, strategic planning, succession discussions, and board collaboration activities.
  • Attend chapter events and represent the chapter in leadership and professional association activities as appropriate.
